Since the beginning of her artistic career with Todd Merrill Studio in 2012, Barry has risen to prominence in the art and design world, becoming one of the most sought-after figures working in LED light sculptures today. Barry has been profiled in Architectural Digest, Modern Magazine, Galerie Magazine, the Financial Times and was the recipient of the 2017 Award for Best Lighting in Image Interiors and Living Magazine. Her work is included in many public and private collections in both the United States and abroad including the Four Seasons Hotel, Merrion Hotel, Shelbourne Hotel, Finchatton, the Ritz Carlton, and U2’s own collection.
In 2017 Barry was commissioned by the Central Bank of Ireland to create a monumental work referencing the Broighter Boat and its historical importance. Most recently Barry was selected by the National Museum of Ireland to create a monumental commission that will be part of the museum’s permanent collection. A survey exhibition of her work will be mounted at the museum in 2018.
Barry was born in 1968 in Dublin, Ireland, where she still works and lives. In 1991, upon her graduation from the National College of Art and Design, Barry established her studio practice, creating unique, limited edition LED and bronze light sculptures. As one of only eight international artists selected to showcase innovative lighting designs in London’s Luxcraft in 2011, Barry was recognized as an early adopter and innovator in the use of LED technology. Barry attributes this technology as allowing her to ‘draw’ with light and bronze, referencing visual weight and movement as constant themes.
Todd Merrill Studio is Niamh Barry’s sole representative in the United States. Custom works may be commissioned.
