TODD MERRILL, ATTUALITÀ DELL’ART DESIGN

By Sonia S. Braga | July 22, 2015

MERRILL TODD, ART DESIGN NEWS

By Sonia S. Braga | July 22, 2015

Todd Merrill, gallery of vintage furniture and art design, has opened a new space in Southampton, New York, where he exhibited furniture conceived as works of art.

Todd Merrill Studio, vintage furniture and art design gallery, celebrated fifteen years of activity with the opening of a new showroom in Southampton (New York). The modern white box offers limited editions, unique items and handicrafts created by renowned artists and designers: furniture that has left a mark on the history of American design of the twentieth century, handicrafts embellished with refined details, unusual furniture-sculptures created by contemporary artists. Many creations that combine aesthetics and function, crafts and new technologies. Seems carved by the wind console Waiho Robert Scott, he has organic shapes and asymmetric: a real “free standing sculpture”; the same artistic approach to design distinguishes the light sculptures of Niamh Barry, as the pendant lamp Counterweight, single piece of polished bronze.

Also on display in the gallery Swivel armchair Throne made for Todd Merrill from Olek, an artist famous for the colorful crochet installations, plots that now dress four different swivel chairs from the bohemian charm, with inlays and threads of gold and silver. Among the furnishings, the majolica plates Worcester Imari, hand-painted by Molly Hatch; vessels in recycled plastic Shari Mandelson, inspired by forms of antiquity; porcelain wall of Beth Katleman, personal interpretations of Victorian décor. Craftsmanship compared with 70 sessions of Jack Rogers Hopkins approached the Corsican Chair Ian Spencer and Cairn Young, hand-made with 20 varieties of fine wood. The exhibition also features unique pieces of Gretchen K. Green, furnishings Gary Magakis and Markus Haase, items of furniture conceived as works of art.
