Silas Seandel Cathedral Table – Todd Merrill
Silas Seandel started producing the Cathedral Table around 1975. The brass/bronze base consists of cylinder shapes welded together in varying heights. Using a process of brazing, a lost art, Seandel fused two dissimilar metals which provides for a stronger joinery and a visually perfect union of materials. Seandel then deftly manipulates his welding torch to create the rough look on the edges.
Excellent original condition. As shown with glass top 16.75″H x 58″L x 24″D. Base dimensions 41″L x 15″D.
Similar examples of Seandel’s sculptural furniture documented on page 137-143 of Modern Americana: Studio Furniture. From High Craft to High Glam, Rizzoli 2008.
