Paul Evans, Pair of Argente Cube Side Tables, USA c.1970
A pair of Argente Series Cube Side Tables by Paul Evans, USA, circa 1970. These gorgeous welded aluminum cube tables are fitted with their original Pennsylvania inset slate tops. Evans’ inspired Art Noveau style of decoration, used exclusively on the Argente line, wraps each unique cube. The Argente Series, which Evans produced from the mid 1960s through the 70s, was created using 1/8 inch thick aluminum sheets. Blackened with ink and then sanded, buffed, textured with a torch, and scratched to produce sgraffito markings, the pieces each have a unique and playful appearance. Because of the toxic fumes produced when welding aluminum, the Argente line was short-lived, making pieces in this style exceedingly rare.
Excellent original condition.
