Paul Evans, Custom Pierced Front Hanging Cabinet, USA, c. 1960s
Evans’ pierced-front pieces are very rare and were made early on in his studio practice. This exquisite cabinet features a bi-fold, two-door front made of welded, pierced steel screens over ivory panels. Subtle autumnal paint colors give the piece a sense of warmth. The sides of the cabinet are made of patinated shingled steel and the cabinet’s striking red interior reveals an adjustable shelf for storage or bar use.
This custom cabinet was acquired from its original owner who purchased it directly from the Evans studio in New Hope, Pennsylvania in the early 1960s. All finishes are original, including the steel brackets that bolt to the wall. Excellent condition.
