Clemens Weiss, Shattered Thoughts Chandelier, USA, 2013
Weiss’ hand-made chandeliers made of shattered glass pieces consists of Weiss’ stream of consciousness poetry written upon the shards. The delicate diaphanous palette of soft blue/green glass creates a cool glow even when unlit, suspended from a welded steel frame. At once a sculpture and light source, it exists within the grey space between art and design.
Related pieces have been shown at Ronald Feldman Gallery and are held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Folkwang Museum (Essen), Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin), New York Public Library’s Spencer Collection, Pushkin Museum (Moscow), Palace of Nations (Geneva), University of South Florida, Von der Heydt Museum (Wuppertal, Germany) and Wadsworth Atheneum (Hartford, CT). Weiss has had an incredibly prolific career; he has had over fifty solo and group exhibitions in the US and abroad and has been included in numerous exhibition catalogues and publications. Weiss has also published over sixty of his own editions and publications.
