Light sculpture in mirror polished solid bronze, opal glass, with LEDs.
Niamh Barry’s Knotted is a sculptural, illuminated expression of density through line and form. Composed of Barry’s signature mirror-polished bronze rings and opal glass tiles covering LED lights, the work’s sinuous rings wrap around one another, creating various shapes depending upon the angle from which it is viewed. A dynamic work of art that perennially glows, Knotted is experienced differently from every angle. The uniqueness of an evolving sculpture that interacts with the viewer and its environment is what renders the artist’s work so compelling. Able to be placed on a table top or mounted, a bespoke version of Knotted is available by commission, with custom dimensionality and finishes.
Barry’s repertoire highlights, both literally and figuratively, the various ways by which we may interpret light and darkness, negative and positive space, and human movement.
Niamh Barry was born in 1968 in Dublin, Ireland, where she still works and lives. In 1991, upon graduation from the National College of Art and Design, Barry established her studio and started to create unique conceptual furniture and light sculptures from a range of materials including aluminum, porcelain, linen, mirror, and acrylic as well as wood, black patinated hand-formed solid bronze, mirror-polished solid bronze, and Murano glass. In her signature works, visual weight and movement are constant themes. All custom pieces are available with dimmable LED lighting. Barry’s work is included in many public and private collections nationally and internationally, including the Four Seasons Hotel, O2, Candy and Candy, the Merrion Hotel, the Shelbourne Hotel, Finchatton, and U2’s own collection.
