Clemens Weiss, Shattered Thoughts on Shattered Glass, USA, 2013
Clemens Weiss Shattered Thoughts Glass Chandelier – Todd Merrill
Weiss’ hand-made chandelier is composed of layers of glass pieces covered with the artist’s stream of consciousness poetry. The diaphanous palette of soft blue/green glass creates a cool glow even when unlit; suspended from a welded steel frame, it is at once a sculpture and functional light source. If lit beside a natural light source or positioned lights around it, the black letters reflect upon the walls, creating magnificent layered shadows. These pieces have been nominated for the German Design Award 2016.
Related pieces have been shown at Ronald Feldman Gallery and are held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Folkwang Museum (Essen), Hamburger Bahnhof (Berlin), New York Public Library’s Spencer Collection, Pushkin Museum (Moscow), Palace of Nations (Geneva), University of South Florida, Von der Heydt Museum (Wuppertal, Germany) and Wadsworth Atheneum (Hartford, CT). Weiss has had an incredibly prolific career; he has had over fifty solo and group exhibitions in the US and abroad and has been included in numerous exhibition catalogues and publications. Weiss has also published over sixty of his own editions and publications.
