Niamh Barry’s Unfolded is a twelve-foot long suspended light sculpture that follows The Sum of One and Two II. Composed of the artist’s signature floating hand-formed rings, the piece is made of mirror-polished bronze and glass opal tiles that cover the highest caliber dimmable LEDs. The result is a sinuous, glamorous form that assumes completely different shapes and levels of light depending upon the angle from which the work is viewed.
As Barry works on a commission basis, a bespoke version may be made to order with custom dimensionality, materials, and finishes.
Niamh Barry was born in 1968 in Dublin, Ireland, where she still works and lives. In 1991, upon graduation from the National College of Art and Design, Barry established her studio and started to create unique conceptual furniture and light sculptures from a range of materials including aluminum, porcelain, linen, mirror, and acrylic as well as wood, black patinated hand-formed solid bronze, mirror-polished solid bronze, and Murano glass. In her signature works, visual weight and movement are constant themes. All custom pieces are available with dimmable LED lighting. Barry’s work is included in many public and private collections nationally and internationally, including the Four Seasons Hotel, O2, Candy and Candy, the Merrion Hotel, the Shelbourne Hotel, Finchatton, and U2’s own collection. Her work is exhibited year-round at the world’s most prestigious art fairs, including Art Basel, The Salon: Art + Design, and FOG: Design + Art.
