Light sculpture in mirror polished solid bronze, opal glass, with LEDs.
Niamh Barry’s Falling is a sculptural, illuminated expression of movement. Composed of Barry’s signature mirror-polished bronze rings and opal glass tiles covering LED lights, the sinuous forms appear as though, at any given moment, they might collapse around one another. A dynamic work of art that perennially glows, Falling is experienced differently from every viewpoint. Barry’s repertoire highlights, both literally and figuratively, the various ways we may interpret light and darkness, negative and positive space, and human movement.
Niamh Barry was born in 1968 in Dublin, Ireland, where she still works and lives. In 1991, upon her graduation from the National College of Art and Design, Barry established her studio practice. Barry creates unique, limited edition light sculptures and furniture made from a wide range of materials. In her signature works, visual weight and movement are constant themes.
Since the beginning of her artistic career with Todd Merrill Studio in 2012, Barry has risen to prominence in the art and design world, becoming one of the most sought-after figures working in LED light sculptures today. Barry was profiled in Architectural Digest and Galerie Magazine and her work is included in many public and private collections in both the United States and abroad including the Four Seasons Hotel, Candy and Candy, Merrion Hotel, Shelbourne Hotel, Finchatton, the Ritz Carlton, and U2’s own collection. Most recently, Barry was the recipient of the 2017 Award for Best Lighting in Image Interiors and Living Magazine.
