Charles Hollis Jones Le Dome Dining Table – Todd Merrill
Designed by Charles Hollis Jone, the Le Dome table was created in 1977 by Swedlow Plastics.
Before it met Jones’ strict requirements, the table required extensive experimentation. Its base was made as single casting, including a custom steel anchor used for attaching the top. The concept for the anchor was inspired by Jones’ memories of space-capsule splashdowns, which were in themselves feats of engineering to achieve. For this reason, only Swedlow, an aviation specialist in Southern California capable of creating large-scale casting for the aeronautics industry, was able to execute the Le Dome design.
This table is one of the monumental pieces created from the Charles Hollis Jones Signature Collection.
