A 1920’s Japanese shrine, possibly Buddhist, custom-mounted by Karl Springer Ltd. as an object of vertu on a polished steel and bronze trimed platform base. The shrine circa 1920s in black laquer and cinnebar with gold leaf decoration throughout. In excellent condition, the shrine features double front folding doors in lacquer concealing gold cage doors opening to a decorated and completely gold gilt interior probably ment for personal offering or display of Buddha. The whole mounted circa 1980 by Karl Springer for decorator Rubin de Saavedra. The effect is dramatic and beautiful done by Saavedra ad Springer for a lavish Greenwich, CT interior.
