Perhaps the most significant designer to emerge from the post-world war II period, George Nakashima‘s furniture is among the most continuously sought after. This early museum-quality cabinet features a pull-out writing surface above three narrow drawers on the right hand side and three larger drawers with notched pulls. The most notable feature however, are the decorative pulls that adorn the right-hand side drawers. A rare relic from his internment at Minidoka Relocation Center during World War II, Nakashima collected pieces of bitterbrush shrub around the camp which he polished and used in various furniture designs there and after his relocation to the east coast in 1943. Today, few works that include the bitterbrush scraps remain, with only one other piece, a single-pedestal desk, having been seen publicly in recent years. The cabinet is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Mira Nakashima.
