Paul Evans and Phillip Lloyd Powell, Studio Silver Fish Scale Screen, USA, c. 1960s
An early Paul Evans and Phillip Lloyd Powell Studio screen or room divider in three panels featuring a welded steel fish scale pattern decorated with aluminum metal-leaf and black “ink.” The American black walnut frame is finished with an off-white strié paint.
The screen is an original commission from long-time Evans/Powell Studio client Mrs. Berman, who commissioned multiple pieces by Evans and Powell for her home. Accompanied with a letter of authentication signed by Dorsey Reading, Evans’ studio foreman. May be flat mounted or used as a freestanding screen. A similar example is documented on page 94 of Todd Merrill’s book, Modern Americana: Studio Furniture From High Craft to High Glam.
In excellent original condition.
