This unique lounge chair and ottoman set is an exceptional example of Hopkins’ unrestrained artistic expression. Laminated construction, used in the production of this set, enabled Hopkins to create his distinct large-scale pieces of furniture. Famous for combining the utility of several items into one functional form, Hopkins created this sculptural chair and ottoman set by incorporating a reading lamp and a book shelf into the design. Variations of this set are documented in California Design Eight and California Design Eleven by The Pasadena Art Museum. The pictured set is featured on pages 88 and 89 of Todd Merrill’s book, Modern Americana: Studio Furniture from High Craft to High Glam.
