Pearl, a large wall-mounted LED medallion is punctuated by hand-made glass cabochons. Reminiscent of a string of pearls, the distinct alchemy in creating the individual glass “pearls” renders each unique, ranging in shades from nearly clear to pale pink to watery aqua. Cushing’s sophisticated dexterity of color theory is demonstrated to full effect as each shade of iridescent color is distributed to create a subtle ombre effect downward throughout the work.

London based artist, Amy Cushing has gained international acclaim for her large-scale, site-specific installations of handmade colored glass. Each installation is developed considering its relationship with its environment. Color sequence is also fundamental to Cushing’s artistic process, as she is attuned to the strong emotions that colors evoke. Her works weave color with mesmerizing effect, conveying a sense of energy, rhythm, and harmony. Accents of precious metal gilding are used to catch and refract even more ambient light, adding a new dimension to the glass’ transparency.

As the artist is available on a commission basis, custom works may be requested.
