Vikram Goyal, Kohinoor Console, IN, 2020

New Delhi-based Vikram Goyal’s bold brass Kohinoor Conosle, blends a modern sense of drama and opulence with elements of Indian cultural heritage. The dramatic, architectural console from  is constructed using multiple layers of brass sheets with varying contours and semi-precious inserts such as malachite (shown), amethyst or lapis. The work is evocative of a jeweled throne and thus named as such. With a sweeping length of over eight feet, the Kohinoor Console is ideal for a sculptural bar or console. Beyond traditional Indian motifs, Goyal’s visual lexicon borrows from a multitude of influences from brutalist architecture, 1970’s Psychadelic Art, Art Deco, and Art Nouveau.
