Jean-Luc Le Mounier, Plume, FR, 2019
A graphic landscape of fantastically scaled feather silhouettes form the face of Jean-Luc Le Mounier’s latest work, the Plume cabinet. Each feather is finished in hand-applied satiny black straw marquetry on an individually formed, curved wood silhouette. The bull nose cabinet is completely wrapped in caramel colored straw marquetry highlighting the textured bronze quills that separate each feather’s barbs. Drawing inspiration from natural elements Le Mounier’s singular pieces of design harmoniously mix rare woods, exotic finishes, and precious metals.
The high level of attention to detail in both construction and design is a testimony to Le Mournier’s audacity, imagination and sensibility.
French cabinetmaker Jean-Luc Le Mounier lives and works in Brittany (North-West of France). Le Mounier spent much of his childhood in his grandfather’s carpentry workshop where he would craft tiny pieces of furniture with the tools and materials he could find there. Fascinated with wood, he started his training as a cabinetmaker in 1995. In 2003, Le Mounier opened his own workshop where he could express his passion and explore the many possibilities of crafting unique furniture design.
