K. Gretchen Greene’s Reef three-part sculptural table base of welded steel, bronze, lacquer, and plasma cutting techniques, recalls the organic forms and sinuous movements of water. Greene’s work is often a visual response and recollection of coast living and its fluctuations. Reef is at once a functional table base and hand-sculpted work of art to be seen through a diaphanous glass. The base parts can be assembled closer together or more widely spaced, able to loop through one another or be free standing; a glass top from 4 to 6 feet in diameter is suggested.

K. Gretchen Greene is a steel sculptor who works out of the Artisan’s Asylum in Somerville, MA. Educated at Yale, Princeton, Oxford, Greene began her career as an environmental and corporate lawyer. She has also been a U.S. Department of Energy mathematician, a ship designer, a Hollywood animator, and a cave explorer. Greene’s work is included in private collections internationally and is in institutional collections including Christian Dior, The Providence Children’s Museum, Oberlin College, University of California at Los Angeles, and Ventura Unified School District.

Dimensions of the table can vary based on many possible configurations. Each piece measures as: 19 1/4” x 28” x 13”, 19 1/4” x 37” x 16”, and 19 1/4” x 40” x 17”.
