A “Gazelle” Lounge Chair by Dan Johnson

A  patinated bronze “Gazelle” Lounge Chair by Dan Johnson. USA, circa.  1950s.

A  patinated bronze “Gazelle” Lounge Chair by Dan Johnson. USA, circa.  1950s. A rare example of Dan Johnsons “Gazelle” Series chairs, this  chair is a low-slung lounge chair made for informal seating in a living  room or bedroom. This is not a dining chair — it’s proportions are  wider.  The “Gazelle” series was produced by hand in Italy  and proved to be so costly to manufacture that very few were completed.  This particular chair with its sweeping back and slender arm rests was  cast in bronze giving it a sculpture feel. This chair also has its  original woven cane which is in good condition, a rarity for these  chairs. New custom cushion in off-white “parchment” leather.
