Phillip Lloyd Powell New Hope Armchair, Circa 1960s, USA

A sublime early version of the New Hope armchair by Phillip Lloyd Powell. The New Hope Armchair came in several forms but this particular version, with the boomerang shaped profile and the soft hand carved arms was one of the earliest. This piece was one of the few you could buy off the floor of the original New Hope, PA studio and displays the simple forms and delicacy of Powell’s early work. This particular chair has been reupholstered in leather.
