A rare over-sized Sculpture Front Console signed Paul Evans, 1965. An exemplary early studio piece, this console has four unique massive 22.5″ x 24″ welded steel doors – boldly decorated with Evans signature abstract sculptural elements. Sculptural elements accented with gold leaf, polychrome in greens, yellows, reds, blues and ivory and various patinated finishes to the steel. Single slab of one inch thick, eight foot long cleft Pennsylvanian slate top. Interior in original red lacquer with highly unusual gilt fittings. Right side fitted with four gilt faced, felt lined drawers with sculpted steel pulls. Interior of doors of faceted welded steel decorated in polychrome color. Mounted on a unique, custom welded steel base. Signed by both Paul Evans and one of his artisans known as “Cool”. Signed “Paul Evans 65 c”
