A Two-Door Sculpture Front Console by Paul Evans. USA, 1976. A gorgeous and rare two-door console with the original slate topThese sculpture front consoles were designed and built out of welded steel in the original New Hope, PA workshop specifically as custom commissions. They are considered to be the most successful and most highly sought after pieces from the Evans studio. This console features two unique 21″ x 20″ doors, each with a complex arrangement of sculptural elements in grid work frames.
The sculptural elements are covered in red, ochre, green, yellow, and blue polychrome with gold leaf and black patinated accents. The top is a single slab of original grey slate. The case is covered in a patchwork of deep brown and ochre painted and oxidized patchwork metal. The case sides and center are wrapped in heavy steel straps with bolts and large hinges holding the doors. The interior is in red striated lacquer with  a single felt lined drawer.  Console is signed in welded script “PAUL EVANS 76 JD”
