Spectacular and Massive Harry Bertoia Sonambient Sculpture, USA, 1976
Made two years prior to Bertoia’s death, this Sonambient Sculpture is likely the largest sounding work of Bertoia’s career, not found in a public installation. This sculpture was originally made for the Greig Concert Hall in Bergen, Norway. This sculpture resided in Norway until 2000. Towering over 15′ in height, the work is of truly staggering proportion. The solid bronze base 36″ square, is punctuated by on offset grid of 13 thick bronze rods, each capped by an enormous beryllium copper knocker top. It produces an emormous clangorous tone, with great sustain provided by the impressive mass.
H 15 ft, 3 in., D 36 in., W 36 in.
This sculpture will be shown in our booth at Design Miami/Basel, June 12-17, 2011.
