“Belu Bench” by Zaha Hadid, UK, 2007
Commissioned by Kenny Schachter/ Rove, Zaha Hadid’s monumental Belu Bench is at once utilitarian and decorative. The Belu can function as a desk, storage unit, bench, and an outdoor sculpture. The sinuous lines of the Belu mimic the swooping curves of the Pritzker Prize winner’s numerous architectural triumphs.
The original owner commissioned this piece to be the centerpiece of his booth at an International Art Fair in 2005. The prototype for Belu was included in the Zaha Hadid Retrospective exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City in 2006.
