Paige Stewart is a contemporary sculptor known for her abstract ceramic works that explore themes of duality, legacy, and the human spirit. Her practice bridges the disciplines of art, psychology, and spirituality, resulting in sculptural forms that are at once refined, sensual, and deeply symbolic.
Stewart’s creative journey began in childhood, nurtured by a family that celebrated creativity and encouraged artistic expression. After initially studying ceramic art, a traumatic personal event led her away from her artistic path and into the study of psychology. She later earned a B.A. in Biopsychology and Clinical Psychology from Western State College in Colorado, followed by an M.A. in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. This unique academic foundation now informs her artistic voice—one that is grounded in healing, presence, and transformation.
Her return to ceramics began in 2012, ignited by a powerful emotional response to clay during a visit to a friend’s studio. She launched a pottery line, Soil + Toil, and spent years mastering the craft before turning to sculpture in 2017. That transition opened the door to larger, more intuitive works that reflected her inner journey and spiritual perspective.
Currently working from her studio in Gunnison, Colorado, Stewart’s sculptures range from abstract figural forms and portals to ceramic murals and totemic works. Her signature style—refined, tactile, and elemental—is shaped by years of immersive studio practice and mentorship under renowned ceramic artist Eric Roinestad. Her forms are often born from the wheel and transformed through a process of reshaping and layering, embodying themes of emergence, transformation, and embodiment.
A central body of work, the LEGACY series, reflects Stewart’s ongoing investigation into what we inherit and what we leave behind. Composed of stacked segments, each totem becomes a visual metaphor for the layered nature of identity—familial, spiritual, and cultural. These vertical forms pose the question: What legacy are we leaving for those to come? Whether made as stand-alone works or commissioned in collaboration with collectors, each LEGACY totem becomes an artifact of personal truth and collective memory.
Stewart’s work is deeply informed by her studies in spiritual psychology, as well as early influences like Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth, and Andy Goldsworthy. Additional inspiration stems from the biomorphic abstraction of Jean Arp and Brancusi, the sacred geometry of Hilma af Klint, and the immersive scale of artists like Tara Donovan and Numen/For Use.
Beyond the studio, Stewart has created a space for healing and creative community: The Calm & The Current, her gallery and gathering space in Gunnison. Hosting workshops, exhibitions, and wellness events, it serves as an extension of her belief that art can be a vehicle for personal and collective transformation.
With each new series, Stewart continues to refine a visual language rooted in softness, strength, and spiritual inquiry—crafting not just objects, but portals for introspection and connection.
