A Lucite and Silvered Wood “African” Bench by Karl Springer, New York, c 1970s.
A Lucite and Silvered Wood “African” Bench by Karl Springer, New York, c 1970s. A heavy lucite and silvered-wood bench by Karl Springer in the form of an West African “Ashanti” tribal bench made by Springer in the 1970s. This bench is in excellent original condition with very little wear. The silvered wood has turned golden with time as the lacquer has made it appear pale gold with age. Springer was known to travel extensively around the world for inspiration often bringing back  antiques and mounting them as decorative objects or incorporating them into his furniture. This is the Karl Springer interpretation of a West African tribal seat.
