Jo Andersson is a Swedish-American glass artist and designer based in Hjo, Sweden. Working primarily in hand-blown glass, Andersson creates sculptural forms that balance Scandinavian clarity with an intuitive, organic sensibility. Her practice explores color, presence, and emotional atmosphere, considering the ways glass can shape perception and transform the experience of space.
In Funkylicious, Andersson embraces the playful and exuberant qualities of her medium. Vivid color, irregular contours, and highly individual forms come together in works that celebrate spontaneity, expression, and joy. Each piece possesses a distinct character, balancing sculptural refinement with luminosity, humor, and a sense of freedom. Through the series, Andersson explores glass as both object and presence—capable of commanding attention while creating an atmosphere that feels immediate, lively, and deeply human.
Born in Walnut Creek, California in 1988, Andersson earned a BFA in Glassblowing from The Ohio State University in 2012. She continued her practice in Seattle, where she worked alongside established American glass artists and managed the glass studio at the Schack Art Center. In 2020, she received a Master’s degree in CRAFT! from Konstfack in Stockholm. She was awarded the Marianne and Sigvard Bernadotte Design Scholarship in 2021.
Andersson’s work has been exhibited internationally, including Fluidity, a 2023 exhibition at the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, where she was the featured artist.
