Amir Habibabadi

Amir Habibabadi is a Los Angeles–based sculptural furniture and architectural designer whose work exists at the confluence of art, design, and advanced fabrication. Raised within a family deeply engaged in the world of antiques and exhibitions, Habibabadi developed an early sensitivity to form, craftsmanship, and the enduring dialogue between historical and contemporary design.

He holds a Master of Architecture from Europe, as well as a second master’s degree in Emerging Technology from SCI-Arc in Los Angeles. Following his academic training, Habibabadi collaborated with leading architectural practices, where he specialized in the application of digital and parametric design methodologies. This experience laid the groundwork for his independent studio, Amorph, through which he channels his evolving vision. Separate from Amorph, Habibabadi has created a unique collection of collectible design and interior architecture ranging from furniture design to doors and bannisters for Todd Merrill Studio.

Habibabadi’s practice is defined by a fluid interplay between architecture, sculpture, and functional design. Working at the intersection of these disciplines, he conceives each piece as both a utilitarian object and a formal investigation. His process often begins with digital experimentation, using parametric modeling to explore movement, continuity, and complex geometries. These studies are subsequently translated into physical form through a synthesis of advanced fabrication techniques and traditional craftsmanship.

Employing materials such as wood and lacquer, Habibabadi emphasizes both the tactile and visual qualities of his work, achieving a balance between structural integrity and sculptural expression. Architectural elements including doors, railings, and furniture are reimagined as dynamic forms that engage with light, space, and the viewer, blurring the boundary between object and environment.

Drawing inspiration from natural phenomena, Habibabadi’s work reflects a fascination with motion and transformation. The ephemeral qualities of smoke, flowing water, wind, and the human body in motion inform his approach, resulting in forms that capture a sense of suspended movement. Through this lens, his pieces evoke a moment in flux that is at once controlled and organic imbuing each work with a sense of vitality and continuous evolution.
