Laura Facey, Golden Tree, JM, 2026
Laura Facey is a celebrated Jamaican artist whose sculptural practice spans more than five decades. Her work emerges from the deep historical, emotional, and physical landscape of Jamaica, drawing inspiration from its earth, people, and complex past. Working primarily with felled Jamaican hardwoods, Facey has developed a distinctive body of sculpture that has evolved from explorations of collective and personal trauma toward increasingly abstract, spiritual, and hopeful forms that honor Jamaica’s enduring spirit.
Presented here, Golden Tree is a striking new evolution of Facey’s vision. Standing 10 feet 6 inches tall, the extraordinarily slender and elegant mahogany tree sculpture is covered in luminous gold leaf, giving it an almost otherworldly presence. Carved from a felled tree and meticulously sculpted and finished by Facey and her local Jamaican team, Golden Tree embodies both reverence for the natural world and a sense of renewal, transforming native hardwood into a powerful symbol of resilience, beauty, and transcendence.
