Creator of Objects, OORT Table, CA, 2025
The Oort Low / Side Tables present a universe distilled into luminous resin. Inspired by the Oort Cloud, a theoretical halo of icy planetesimals encircling our solar system, the works imagine these forms as celestial bodies, slowly shaped and softened through eons of movement and erosion in deep space.
Rendered in saturated turquoise and verdant green, each table possesses a smooth, rounded exterior that feels both futuristic and elemental. The polished surface reflects light with a quiet intensity, while subtle tonal variations suggest depth, atmosphere, and continual motion beneath the surface. These objects appear simultaneously ancient and speculative, as if retrieved from an uncharted cosmic landscape.
The tables are produced through an exacting rotocasting process, developed over the course of a year of experimentation. Resin is applied in successive internal layers while the mold rotates on multiple axes, gradually building structural integrity and chromatic richness using minimal material. This labor-intensive process unfolds over many days, allowing form and color to accumulate organically.
While the exterior is carefully measured, refined, and polished, the interiors remain irregular and expressive, quietly revealing the traces of gravity, rotation, and time. The result is a pair of sculptural tables that exist at the intersection of art, science, and design: vessels of process, material intelligence, and imagined cosmology.
