Jordi Mollá Sarrate, Melt Stool, ES, 2025
We are delighted to announce our representation of Jordi Mollá Sarrate, the Barcelona-based artist and designer whose practice traces a singular trajectory from fashion to sculpture to functional art. Trained in graphic design and shaped by two decades as a creative director in fashion, Sarrate turned fully to art in 2017, founding his studio in 2019. His work is rooted in an inherited reverence for wood and a devotion to handcraft and embodies a profound dialogue between intuition, materiality, and the evolution of form.
Sarrate’s newest body of work pushes the boundaries between sculpture and design, advancing his explorations of his “loop” and “melt” concepts. Through monumental, hand-sculpted walnut forms that are often carved from salvaged, centuries-old wood, Sarrate dissolves the legibility of furniture, guiding each piece toward a biomorphic, near-otherworldly presence. His refined indigo patinas, achieved through a painstaking process using natural pigment, deepen the sensorial experience of the work, allowing the life of the wood to remain visible beneath a luminous, shifting surface.
In Sarrate’s practice, function becomes an invitation rather than a mandate. Each object is a meditation on harmony, imperfection, and the human touch. His pursuit of “functional sculpture” honors the lineage of craft while imagining new possibilities for how art can inhabit everyday life. We are honored to welcome Jordi Sarrate to the gallery, and to champion a vision that elevates material, form, and gesture into an act of quiet, essential beauty.
