Phillip Lloyd Powell Sculpted Walnut and Travertine Sofa, Circa 1960’s, USA
A rare and early seating arrangement hand carved in Walnut with integrated travertine side tables. The sofa frame allows two seating units with hand carved walnut backs and two walnut framed travertine slabs to be rearranged independently. Bench is upholstered in off-white leather and white sheared goatskin. This is an early Powell piece that would most likely have been commissioned through the Evans Powell studio in New Hope and a similar version is documented in Todd Merrill and Julie Iovine, Modern Americana: From High Craft to High Glam, Rizzoli, 2008 p. 93.
