Todd Merrill Studio began representing Ian Spencer as one half of design duo Yard Sale Project in 2011. Spencer’s one-of-a-kind furniture reflects his masterful craftsmanship and fresh approach to contemporary design. His design ideas are informed by materials and processes, an ethic that starts from any given material, and what it can be used for.

The hand-formed dresser is finished using the shou-sugi-ban method, an ancient Japanese finishing technique that preserves wood by charring it with fire. In addition to being aesthetically striking and elegant, the finishing technique renders the wood rot, pest, water, UV, and fire resistant.
