Markus Haase, Circlet Table Light Sculpture, DE, 2025
Markus Haase’s newest Circlet Light marks a stunning metamorphosis of his signature chandelier form into a freestanding bronze and onyx sculpture. Building on the artist’s celebrated Circlet Series, this evolution transforms the interlocking geometry of his hanging lights into a grounded, yet ethereal presence. Hand-sculpted in bronze and illuminated through onyx, the piece captures Haase’s mastery of light and material — the tension between solidity and fluidity, gravity and lift.
Since launching his first sculptural design series exclusively with Todd Merrill Studio in 2013, Haase has continued to redefine the boundaries between art and design. Each work, whether chandelier, table, or light sculpture, embodies his unparalleled skill in shaping metal, stone, and wood into forms of movement and grace.
As Todd Merrill notes, “Markus Haase is not making a piece of furniture or lighting that looks like art — he is a sculptor making art that serves functional ends.”
Haase hand-carves each linear form before using a self-developed technique of casting that destroys the original, rendering each form one-of-a-kind. Onyx is hand-carved and merged with the bronze, diffusing the internal LEDs. The work retains its luminescent quality even when unlit.
